The Romanic Cathedral built in 1150 by the first king of Portugal Alfonse Henriques lies in the small square of Santo António da Sé.
Raised up on the ruins of a mosque of 1147, this is the only monument dating back to the foundation of the Portuguese nation.
The impressive façade of the outside hides the decadent aspect of the inside, with big Roman arcades, a baroque choir and gothic chapels. The Capitular Room hosts a beautiful collection of treasures.
Opening times: Tue-sat.: 9 am-19pm; sun, mon and public holidays 9 am-17 pm.
