Colinas and Viva Viagem Travel Cards
How do they work:
Both cards cost Euro 0,50 and since February 2009 they have replaced the magnetic tickets previously used for the underground.
They are paper cards with 1 year validity, on which it is possible to recharge the following travel tickets:
- Single tickets for Carris (Euro 0,81), Metro( Euro 0,80), and for urban trains of the Comboios de Portugal company;
- 10 tickets carnet for Carris, Metro (Euro 6,50) and for urban trains of the Comboios de Portugal company;
- Integrated daily tickets valid 24 h from first use, giving access to unlimited journeys on the entire Carris and Metro network (Euro 3,70);
- Zapping formula: this is basically a rechargeable card which gives you a credit up to Euro 20 (with an initial charge of Euro 2,00 and up to Euro 15,00); for the next recharges there is no minimum fee, while the maximum value rechargeable is Euro 15. The formula also apply some bonuses for frequent travelers. The Zapping card is individual, you cannot recharge credits for other persons. The cards can be purchased or recharged in any of the Carris and Metro ticket offices, and at the automated ticket machines situated in stations. Every time you get on a bus or other means of transport, you need to validate the ticket by taking it near to the appropriate device which is normally placed close to the entrance doors. A light will confirm the validation.
Important: the card must be always validated on each journey
